The VA Combined Ratings Table: The Table

Picture
The Combined Ratings Table can be found at 38 C.F.R. 4.25, along with an explanation about how it is used. To view this: CLICK HERE.

This explanation will use the example of a Veteran who is rated:
           ● Lower Back 60%
           ● Knees 40%
           ● Hearing Loss 20%
     Total disability = 80%

Step One: Using the example above, list the ratings in descending order from highest to lowest:

                        60%
                        40%
                        20%

Step Two: Find the largest percentage on the top row of the table.

Step Three: Go down the column to the row starting with 40, the second largest percentage. Find the intersection of 60 and 40, which is 76.

Step Four: Find the third percentage along the top row of the table.

Step Five: Go down the column to the row starting with 76, the number you found at Step 3. Find the intersection of 20 and 76, which is 81.

Step Six: All figures ending in 1 through 4 round down. All figures ending in 5 through 9 round up. That means round 81 down to 80.

The end result is 60% + 40% + 20% = 80%
